This large backyard project combined a wraparound deck with a covered outdoor living space built around a lap pool. The design focused on creating a durable structure with a more rustic, architectural look.
The substructure was built entirely with pressure-treated lumber for strength and resistance to moisture. Once the framing and drop beams were installed and leveled, the deck surface was completed using Ipe wood with a hidden fastener system for a clean finish. The hardwood was sanded and sealed with oil to protect against UV exposure and water penetration.
Rough-cut Douglas fir beams were installed overhead to form the main roof structure, adding both structural support and visual character. Due to their size and weight, the beams were carefully positioned using winches during installation.
Additional elements included a sloped flat roof for drainage, skylights for natural light, tongue-and-groove ceiling finishes, and custom metal cladding details. The final result is a durable, well-integrated outdoor space designed for both everyday use and entertaining around the pool.
